i'm appalled to hear politicians in maine speaking of environmentalists as the worst possible thing for a forest.
this partnership between the nature conservancy and the great northern paper company is not only saving jobs for people that like to cut down trees, it's saving the trees at the same time. yet, some locals feel that this is a terrible thing.
millinocket's town manager eugene conlogue is afraid putting that much land in the hands of the environmentalists will end up in something awful like a state park. the nature conservancy's plan allow for sustainable foresting of the region, meaning the paper companies and paper mills still have access to the natural resources and the foresting is managed so that those resources have time to be replenished. what could possibly be bad about this?
hear the story and let me know what you think.
